Investigating mVm's Breath Behaviors: removing judgement, building awareness with mVm Founder Scott Miller and Director of Teacher Certification Kristi Dana
Friday, October 3 at 9am (CDT)
Discover a brand new system to articulate common and universal ways we unconsciously communicate with our breathing patterns. At mVm we call these "Breath Behaviors." Similar to how we look at body language, we will break down, investigate, and attempt different behaviors that transcend what is "good" and shifts the conversation to what is ultimately useful and efficient.
Critical Listening and Concept Formation in Dialect Pedagogy with Certified mVm Teacher Nick Curnow
Friday, October 3 at 9:15am (CDT)
This short session will demonstrate the use of Critical Listening, essentially involving audio recording and playback, in the dialect coaching setting as a tool for phoneme acquisition. It will explain the origin and theory behind the tool and provide examples of its application and effect in the dialect coaching environment.
Breath as Communication: Non-vocalized Sounds as a Springboard for Expression with Certified mVm Teacher Echo Sunyata Sibley
Sunday, October 5 at 1:30pm (CDT) | Available Online!
Experience a "silent" and physical movement workshop that uses breath and non-vocalized expression as your primary form of communication while exploring physical storytelling exercises gleaned from Clown, Commedia dell'Arte, and abstract physical theatre movement. We will unblock and use the breath to enhance and finesse our ability to create narratives and physicalize a need, a struggle, a word or a story, without ever uttering a sound.
Voices of Resistance: Clowning, Activism, and the Power of Play with Certified mVm Teacher Echo Sunyata Sibley
Sunday, October 5 at 4:00pm (CDT)
Voices of Resistance is a high-energy dive into the radical power of clowning as a tool for bold expression and transformation. Led by members of the dark feminist clown troupe WOMEN FROM MARS THEATRE, this workshop fuses physical comedy, a mix of Roy Hart and Fitzmaurice Voicework®, and social activism to help you reclaim your voice--literally and metaphorically.
Swing into Action with (newly!) Certified mVm Teacher Robin Aronson & Nick Curnow
Sunday, October 5 at 4:00pm (CDT)
This experiential Miller Voice Method workshop will explore the embodied concept of Active Breath under duress. mVm's Active Breath is an athletic approach involving the continuous and uninterrupted flow of inhale into exhale and exhale into inhale. This workshop will specifically explore Active Breath within exercises designed to increase the demands on our attention while challenging the participant to keep breathing so they can remain free of vocal and physical constrictions.
